Auckland Airport (AKL)
Airlines and Terminals
(Auckland, North Island, New Zealand NZ)
New Zealand's premier air facility in terms of overall size and passenger throughput, Auckland Airport (AKL) is served by many domestic and international airlines, flying to and from the North Island. Of interest, this is actually the fourth-biggest airport in the whole of the Australia continent, after those of Sydney, Melbourne and also Brisbane.
This is a single runway facility, which can manage close to 50 flights every hour. However, a further runway is currently under construction, as part of the site's NZ$30 million expansion plan.
Auckland's airport is home to two terminals - International and domestic. The International Terminal features gates 1 to 16, as well as gates 4A to 5A, and is rather dominated by Air New Zealand. In the Domestic Terminal, Air New Zealand (gates 28 to 33) also enjoys a strong presence, along with Jetstar Airways (gates 20 to 23) and Great Barrier Airlines.
